A DOBELL PRIZE FINALIST The debut year of this prestigious award when Sir arthur Boyd was the selecting Judge, XERSA is an internationally exhibited, practicing Artist who began drawing around ten years of age. With experience of 26 solo and over 40 group exhibitions and has work in private & corporate collections nationally & internationally. Xersa is Australian born with Scottish, English & French ancestry; then I asked her, "Your name?" Apparently it was a business name which has no origin or meaning that is now her legal name. Xersa's work has an edginess you can't place your finger on. Powerful imagery stated with minimalism. An owner manager of a Textile Design Studio in Melbourne 1978 - 1993, past studies in ZEN BRUSH DRAWING and impetus evident imbue her works with essence of battles won against adversity. Xersa draws parallels across nature surviving climate change & her own determination to win. www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au

Although this information is yet to be confirmed, It was easy to follow a path through Scottish history, uncovering tales of battles & achievments extraodinary & other intriguing findings such as:- My Mothers Father, SIDNEY GEORGE ALLARS painted watercolours, He fought in France with his brother who was killed and buried at BAILLUEL FRANCE. JAMES DEL CRAIG b. about 1380, LORD OF HUPE in Orkney, m.1422 MARGARET SINCLAIR daughter of HENRY SINCLAIR 1st Earl of Orkney son of Malise of Stratherne. James was granted Attestation in 1442

JOHN OF THE CRAIG, LAIRD OF THE CRAIG OF AUCHINDOIR, was given the title, STEWART OF CRAIGFINTRAY CASTLE by Robert 11. b.about 1300 led the Battle Of Culblean on St Andrews day 30th November 1335 from KILDRUMMIE CASTLE in favour of ROBERT THE BRUCE who later became BRUCE KING OF SCOTLAND. John of the Craig's estate passed to his daughter upon his death about 1380 from whose marriage, the STEWARTS originated. His Arms passed to a brother or cousin in Aberdeenshire whose line then became the Craigs of Craigfintray. The name Stewart originated from William The Conqueror 1028-1087 who had three sons by Matilda; William, ancestor of the Fitz-alans, Earls of Arundel, Simon, projenitor of the name Boyd and Walter who settled in Scotland. King David 1 gave Walter the title, LORD HIGH StEWART, he, as stated before, married ANNABELLE, the daughter of John of the Craig. They had a son named Alexander of whose sons were; John of Bonkyll, Alexander, ancestor of the Earls of angus, Alan, ancestor of the House of Darnley, Earls and Dukes of Lennox and JAMES whose grandson ROBERT ascended the throne of Scotland in 1371.

JOHAN CRAIG b.1280 OF LINLITHGOW. Fealty was sworn to EDWARD 1 by JOHAN DE CRAGYN of Linlithgow 1296 with JOHAN CRAIG, AGNEYS DEL CRAGE of Edinburgh & JOHAN DEL CRAGGE of Lanarckshire

BRYCE DEL CRAIG b.1250? [Bruce of Craig] Burgess of Aberdeenshire in 13OO-17

CRAIG CLAN emerged in 1066 in Aberdeenshire seated at Craigfintray Castle in Kildrummie. Names were adopted from the area where they settled. Names were documented at a later time in The Ragman rolls.

The name Craig is derived from Crag [Cragge, Cragie, Cragayn] from the Crags or rocky outcrops in mountains. The name Drummond [Dromund] derived from the Gaelic word Dromainn meaning high ground. Both names are from the highlands. In 1685 in The Peerage Of scotland, the Earl of Melfort, Lord John Drummond of gillestoun, Viscount of forth, Lord drummond of Riccartoun, Castlemains and Gilstoun, later gained further titles of Lord Concraig & Viscount Cargill. His father was James Drummond 3rd Earl of Perthshire. The Drummonds fought with Robert Bruce against the English in the battle of Banockburn even though alliegance was sworn to Edward 1 of England in 1296. They were rewarded with lands in Perthshire. In 1364, Margaret Drummond married David 11, son of Robert Bruce. She was his 2nd wife. In 1367, Margarets niece, Annabella Drummond married John, High Stewart of scotland who later was named Robert 111. From overlaying all the stories & historical writings We may be able to ascertain that John of the Craig Laird of the Craig of auchindoir, Perthshire was given the title Stewart of Craigfintray Castle in Kildrummie by Robert 11 legitimated by the marriage of his parents in 1347 that John of the Craig could have been one and the same as John Drummond of Stobhall. Much of this sort of history is concealed in a plethora of confusing tales. It seems it was not considered then to be an unhealthy practice to intermarry. A story found in "The complaint of the people of Orkney" reads:- 'Sir Alexander Murray of Olgilvie and Sir Johns' Brother in Law, the Earl of Stratherne, had, due to a fued, thrust Sir John Drummond out of the office of Stewartship to prefer a title of his own election in 1413. It seems that Sir John had killed the Earl of stratherne over this but was not convicted of any crime. The Earl of stratherne apparently had boasted that he had better entitlement to the crown than King James 1 being by marriage related to King robert and Elizabeth Mure.' John Drummond May have chosen to use the title from his seat of holding of Concraig.
